Alan Mann

Israeli Krav International South Africa.
Master Instructor – Black Belt 4th Dan in IKI Krav Maga.

Alan Mann is the product of a long and varied military career in the South African Air Force and South African Infantry and is a former Special Forces Operator. (The Recce’s)  In addition to the valuable practical skills and experience he gained over the course of many years in Military Service, he has also had exposure to a great number of hand-to-hand combat styles from many different countries. Whilst on a parachuting trip to the Czech Republic in 2005, as a part of the Special Forces League, he was introduced to a group that trains the Czech Special Forces & Police Special Task Force in self-defence (MUSADO) in Prague.  This style of combat impressed him greatly and on his return from the Czech Republic, he searched for a similar suitable combat form.  He experimented with several martial arts, including Goju Ryu Karate, as a youngster, and Aikido, but came to the conclusion that traditional or sporting arts were unable to provide the required skill set.  “I was introduced to a form of Krav Maga in 2006 – it was the start of a remarkable journey.”  As the club grew rapidly, Alan became the very first instructor in South Africa to be certified under the IKI club banner, and was also instrumental in forging the first links with Moshe Katz of Israeli Krav International (IKI) in Israel.  “I trained in a fantastic system in South Africa, even though it was primitive,” says Alan. “I wanted to affiliate with a recognized body in Israel, and after a great deal of very careful research, I chose IKI. The amazing thing is that Moshe had evolved IKI Krav Maga to such a degree, that it not only dovetailed perfectly with my own discoveries, but exceeded what I had done. To join IKI in Israel was absolutely the best decision I could have made.”

Alan is now a Full Instructor in IKI as well as being a Master Instructor and holds a Black Belt 4th Dan in IKI Krav Maga. He trains class groups as well as private clients and their family members in aspects of personal and third party protection.  In addition to training a broad cross-section of students, Alan has also enabled many people with physical limitations caused by age or injury to adapt the IKI system in ways that not only amplify their ability, but enable them to defend themselves powerfully and effectively.  “There are no barriers in Krav Maga,” he says. “Anyone with the right mindset can do this.”
